Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. But we do know that words do bear weight - words build up, words tear down. Words encourage, words edify, words enlighten. But how about the other end of the spectrum?

Things have happened lately that have made me pause and wonder, would things be the same if some words were not said? Possibly, we don't want to rule out that possibility, but the error wouldn't be on our side then, would it? Sure, I wasn't at the scene and I don't know what happened for sure, but I do know that the comment made was hurtful and unnecessary. A win is a win, a loss is a loss. Why do you compete? To prove you are better than others? To mock others who are not as good as you? To let others know you are the best? Fine, granted that you are motivated by such low ideals. But mocking your opponents after you have won? I think we should have a little consideration for others, not everyone's a victor. But it all boils down to thoughtfulness and self-control, doesn't it?

How am I using my own words?
