Stake
Like a single candlestick burning, burning -
Steadily watching its own flame; own pain.
As the figure goes away, turning - he's learning
That not all starlight steer their lane.
It's quiet; echoes deep -
Like plain grass dots of sheep;
Yet the noise of his beat, bleeting heart
Drives away a sombre sleep.
Now rest; now awake -
Her voice is calling 'cross the lake;
This anguish bids goodbye too well,
A vampire through a stake.
And as they walk, they saunter on -
Unafraid and unaware;
Yet still this dream, may taunt her long -
I'm afraid and now aware.
